The View from New Orleans & San Francisco | A Startup Genome Update

Today, more than 100 Edmontonians are on the way to San Francisco to celebrate a new direct flight from Air Canada. Direct and daily access to the Bay Area has been a priority for our city’s technology and business leaders because of the vast investment, talent recruitment, and partnership opportunities available.

Connections to innovation and technology centres around the world are vitally important for the success of our city’s tech startups and scaling companies. Measuring the relationships between our city’s founders and founders around the world, and understanding how we can better support their efforts, is one of the reasons we are proud to participate in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report in 2018. The report features strategic startup, investment and policy insights from more than 10,000 founders in 45 cities.

I’ve spent the last two days in New Orleans participating in the Collision 2018 Ecosystem Summit and the Startup Genome Member meetings learning more about the results of the 2018 report.

More than participating in a research study, the Startup Genome experience provides us with the opportunity to learn from innovation communities around the world.

You can check out the entire report here. Edmonton is featured for our success in three sub-sectors: A.I, Health and Life Sciences, and Big Data and Analytics. In addition to all of the Edmonton info, there are fascinating global trends and insights from the team at Startup Genome.

I see the efforts and capabilities of our community every day as we serve founders and their teams through mentorship and programs, access to talent, community events, and collaborative workspace. I look forward to using the information provided in the report to inform our future plans.

Innovate Edmonton, a division of Edmonton Economic Development and Startup Genome Member, will receive the full Edmonton report in the coming weeks and I look forward to diving into the information and opportunities it affords our entire ecosystem. Thank you to Innovate Edmonton and Edmonton Economic Development for making participation in this trusted global resource a priority.
