Launch Party is a highlight of each Edmonton Startup Week. It's a chance for the entire community to come together, celebrate the efforts of 10 new tech companies, try out products that feature top technology trends, and catch up with the growing list of alumni founders & teams. This year we were thrilled to host the community in Ford Hall, Rogers Place. Especially neat for the team at Startup Edmonton is that we could see our home in the historic Mercer Warehouse in the background all night long. Enjoy some of the photos of our more than 700 guests from Michel Feist, Ampersand Grey, and highlights of #yegsw17 compiled by Shayne Woodsmith at EEDC.
Our next round of photos is ready! We're thrilled to share moments from Roundhouse @ Startup Edmonton, Lunchalytics, Valley Tech Talk, and Lift Interactive's Tackling Intangibles Workshop. Special thanks, as always to Shayne and Jeff at Edmonton Economic Development and Michel Feist at Ampersand Grey for all of their help.
Next week we'll have a recap video and photos from Launch Party 8!
IFTTT (If This Then That) is one of our favourite introductory tools to encourage prototyping. A free web-based service, IFTTT creates applets that use conditional statements to get different services, like Gmail, Twitter or a weather app, to trigger actions. Think of it as creating a recipe that would text you to bring a sweater to work if it dips below -1 degrees, or to send your friends a weekly email of all your newly liked songs from a streaming app (especially if you're the one with the best recommendations!)
We're here to be your personal If This Then That guide for Edmonton Startup Week! If you enjoyed a session or experience at #yegsw17, there is sure to be something for you year-round in our city's growing startup community.
Edmonton Startup Week 2017 was a massive celebration of our city's startup community! With more than fifty events and our largest Launch Party yet, we know that there is an incredible network of passionate, engaged, and hard-working people committed to building and growing tech companies in Edmonton. I look forward to sharing lots of updates, photos, and more ways for you to connect with community in the coming weeks.
"One of the best parts of the week is seeing new people find their place in the community. There are dozens of meetups left in 2017, foundational workshops to get your product idea off the ground, and collaborative workspace that can grow as you do."
Edmonton Startup Week is in full swing! Just a few hours in and we've already had a LinkedIn workshop, hotdogs at Mayday Dogs, free coworking at Startup Edmonton, and the return of The MS DOS to benefit the Computer Engineering Club over with our friends at Farrow Sandwiches.
With so much happening over the next five days to celebrate and grow our startup community, you might be wondering why there is a Valley Tech Talk on the schedule? If we're focused on how Edmonton is unique and how we can support one another, why would we take the time out to learn about Silicon Valley?
Totally valid questions! And, I'm here to help. Here are my top three reasons why you should make the Valley Tech Talk part of your #yegsw17 schedule.
It's the most exciting time of the year - Edmonton Startup Week returns, October 16 - 20, and this year we have more than 50 events for you to take in. The startup community has stepped up in a big way this year and many community partners, startups and scaling companies are hosting events in their spaces - we can't wait to see you there!
Be sure to build your schedule early - some events already have waitlists.
