Recommended Listen: Getting to Burstiness

With all of my travel the last few weeks, it's been a great chance to catch up on episodes from some of my favourite podcasts. In WorkLife with Adam Grant: A TED original podcast, he explores what makes for great teams and working environments by going to some of the world's most unusual workplaces.

In one of the best episodes, Adam goes to The Daily Show to sit in for a day to see what it takes to harness the power of group creativity in high-pressure situations. We've all sat through brainstorming sessions where at the end it seems like the least attractive, most safe ideas float to the top, and, frankly, it feels like mediocracy is rewarded.

After listening to The Daily Show team chat about their workflow and relationships to one another, Adam uncovers four essential elements to improve creativity and innovative results from your time working together as a team.

Founder Update: Visio Media

Founder Update: Visio Media

In celebration of our 5th anniversary at the Mercer Warehouse, we had the opportunity to chat with some of our alumni founders about how things have changed for their companies since our downtown community hub opened. We're thrilled that our milestones often coincide with exciting news from our alumni companies! Over the next six weeks, we'll be sharing updates from some of Edmonton's hardest working founders.

In this episode, we hear from Nicolette Leonardis, Vice President & Co-Founder at Visio Media.

Thanks for the tweet! We needed more than 140 characters.

Hi XC,

Thanks for your tweet. We've thought about this a lot, too. I recently shared an article from Reid Hoffman on my social media accounts - The Human Rights of Women Entrepreneurs. It highlights behavior changes needed in the extremes but doesn't address the way day-to-day bias can affect women in all roles in tech.

MEMBER UPDATE: EDMONTON’S POPPY BARLEY OPENS FLAGSHIP STORE AT SOUTHGATE CENTRE

MEMBER UPDATE: EDMONTON’S POPPY BARLEY OPENS FLAGSHIP STORE AT SOUTHGATE CENTRE

Our friends at Poppy Barley announced big news today! 1000 square feet of news with the opening of a flagship location at Southgate Centre in August 2017.

Congratulations to the incredibly hardworking team at Poppy Barley as they embark on an exciting new journey (and welcome 12 new members to the PB family!). Over the past five years, we assembled desks together as we moved into the Mercer Warehouse, you measured our feet in Work Space 1 for some of the first orders of boots, and welcomed hundreds of eager Poppy Barley customers at sample sales where lineups snaked down the stairwell and out onto 104th Street.

It's an honor to share in so many milestones with you & we look forward to much more to come.
