Do you have a passion for entrepreneurship and seeing companies grow in Edmonton? Are you interested in being part of diversifying the Edmonton economy?

The Startup Edmonton Community Coordinator will be the first point of contact for individuals looking to engage with Startup Edmonton and the broader tech/innovation community. This role will be passionate about connecting entrepreneurs with supports that best suit their tech-enabled companies' needs. This resourceful individual will actively reach out to the community to build awareness about Startup Edmonton, share what’s happening in the Edmonton tech community and identify access to supports.

At Startup Edmonton we connect entrepreneurs and product builders with skills, community and space to support them as they take ideas to reality. We create collisions – between developers, designers, makers, founders and mentors – and deliver programs that transform ideas into companies.  Startup Edmonton is 14,000 square feet of program, community and co-working space at the historic Mercer Warehouse.

We are looking for a passionate individual who is enthusiastic about building the startup community and helping entrepreneurs find success.

Here at Startup Edmonton, we specialize in tech-enabled companies. That's our shorthand for how technology and scale go hand-in-hand; it’s the possibility for a product to expand beyond your expertise and availability.

Not everyone wants to build a tech-enabled product, but there are still lots of ways that you can integrate top technology trends into your business to help scale your marketing, sales, and customer service efforts. What's even better? There are Edmonton-based companies you can tap into for help!

Startup Edmonton Notes: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and the Startup Community

Startup Edmonton Notes: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and the Startup Community

At the Mayor's State of the City address last month, we heard a lot about companies in Edmonton that are embracing technology to scale traditional industries and business models. Mayor Iveson cited Jobber, a member and Launch Party alumni company, as one of the local technology companies that is growing at an incredible rate and doing so by applying technology to optimize thousands of small businesses around the world, from landscaping to appliance repair and almost any service industry in between.

Here at Startup Edmonton, I hear a lot every day about machine intelligence and the opportunities for Edmonton to take a leading role in the way these technologies are integrated into businesses of all sizes and in all industries. We have leading researchers and students at Amii at the University of Alberta, but we also have startup and technology communities that are hungry to learn and implement these research principles into their products & projects.

Kieran Ryan, President of Pogo CareShare, is an active member of our startup community, Along with Co-Founder James Kwan, Pogo joined Startup Edmonton in the summer of 2014 and were a featured company at Launch Party 5.

Pogo is a car sharing service that gives members 24/7 access to a pool of vehicles located within a defined, central zone in the city.  Often you can see a full row of Pogos parked outside of the Mercer Warehouse - many of the startup members take full advantage of their services, including free parking at City of Edmonton meters, gas and insurance. (Commons Members receive an awesome discount from Pogo CarShare!)

We sat down with Kieran to chat about Pogo CarShare and their Startup Edmonton experience.

Creative Collisions

Creative Collisions

Startup Edmonton is a place for creative collisions. Recently, we welcomed artist Brandon Bilhete to the space to work on a new chalk wall mural for the social space. After nearly a year to enjoy Jose Macasinag's Startup City illustration, Brandon was tasked with the massive theme of technology through the ages. We think he did a fantastic job!
