Launch Party 8 Recap + #yegsw17 Highlights

Launch Party 8 Recap + #yegsw17 Highlights

Launch Party is a highlight of each Edmonton Startup Week. It's a chance for the entire community to come together, celebrate the efforts of 10 new tech companies, try out products that feature top technology trends, and catch up with the growing list of alumni founders & teams. This year we were thrilled to host the community in Ford Hall, Rogers Place. Especially neat for the team at Startup Edmonton is that we could see our home in the historic Mercer Warehouse in the background all night long. Enjoy some of the photos of our more than 700 guests from Michel Feist, Ampersand Grey, and highlights of #yegsw17 compiled by Shayne Woodsmith at EEDC.

Startup Edmonton Notes: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and the Startup Community

Startup Edmonton Notes: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and the Startup Community

At the Mayor's State of the City address last month, we heard a lot about companies in Edmonton that are embracing technology to scale traditional industries and business models. Mayor Iveson cited Jobber, a member and Launch Party alumni company, as one of the local technology companies that is growing at an incredible rate and doing so by applying technology to optimize thousands of small businesses around the world, from landscaping to appliance repair and almost any service industry in between.

Here at Startup Edmonton, I hear a lot every day about machine intelligence and the opportunities for Edmonton to take a leading role in the way these technologies are integrated into businesses of all sizes and in all industries. We have leading researchers and students at Amii at the University of Alberta, but we also have startup and technology communities that are hungry to learn and implement these research principles into their products & projects.

Startup Edmonton Notes: Lessons from Kelly Hoey

Yesterday,  we had the pleasure of hosting author, investor, and all-around awesome individual Kelly Hoey for a day of roundtable discussions, one-on-one mentoring, and an evening Q & A with the startup community - all focused on building your dream network.

Kelly's book Build Your Dream Network is full of practical advice on how to be a good person in business, practice networking activities are always mutually beneficial, and make the most of the extracurriculars like clubs, crowds, committees, and cohorts to foster community not just connections.
