We’re looking for an Operations & People Manager, a people person and a systems-level thinker to join us at this pivotal point in our growth. You’ll play a critical role in our team: ensuring we have the people and processes we need to scale and succeed. We’re looking for a high performer who’s ignited by a challenge and ready to roll up their sleeves!
Our new Operations & People Manager will:
Help develop policies and procedures that will foster our culture and drive productivity, including the implementation of a transparent compensation model
Grow our recruiting function by helping our hiring managers develop job postings, source candidates, manage the interview process, and create an amazing candidate experience
Build our employer brand by developing a network of influence in the artificial intelligence, comp sci and start-up space: bridging business, academic and cultural communities both in Edmonton and in other key markets globally
Lead various vendor relationships: our landlord relationship, payroll provider, etc.
Manage our current office space and prepare for the growth of our team: ensuring employees have the necessary tools to do their work, assessing the case for space in secondary markets across the country
Work with our accountant and bookkeeper to operationalize financial reporting as directed by the CFO and CEO
Support our research and innovation grants by filing the necessary documentation related to work completed and supporting grant writers with new applications
Take care of our people by designing meaningful, long-term employee experiences. Promote and develop our culture of feedback and development
Own the essentials: be the point of contact for all people related matters from onboarding/offboarding, vacation tracking, benefits administration, payroll and occasional employee travel
Support employee engagement by organizing periodic events: team lunches, holiday parties, our first bi-annual full team retreat
You’re smart, passionate and value people most of all. You’re adaptable and level-headed: you can work directly with a CEO, impress a potential recruit and stickhandle a difficult meeting. Complex business problems get you excited. You’re a team player who also works well independently. You understand the importance of balancing culture and productivity. You have the utmost discretion.
You have 5+ of work experience touching on business operations with at least 2 years focused on recruitment and HR. You’ve completed formal HR training and are familiar with the relevant federal and provincial legislation.
