Linux gets a lot easier if you know your way around a text based interface! Bring your laptop and learn by doing. We'll walk through several common tasks in the the terminal for around half an hour, and then break off into groups where newer Linux users can ask direct questions of the more experienced folk.
Presenter bio: Mykola Labach has been a hobbyist Linux user since the mid two-thousands. He uses *nixy OSes exclusively at home, and is a light Linux user on the job at a local managed service provider. Mykola aims to contribute the growing ELUG community in whatever way he can, and is starting by sharing his experiences and spark some learning opportunities from more experienced users in the group.
The Edmonton Linux User Group (ELUG) is a chance to get together with other users of Linux, GNU, and Unix-like operating systems, and open source software. Our members range from newcomers to power users to seasoned administrators and developers; so, all are welcome!
We meet as an opportunity to exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences for several reasons:
- to educate for personal and professional growth
- to promote and advocate for the free and open source movement
- to support and assist with Linux related challenges
- and to socialize with peers who have a common interest
Examples of topics that may be discussed or presented include (but not limited to):
- Exposure to different distributions
- Workshops on various tools and commands
- Kernel and system-level development and tuning
We welcome anyone with an interest in Linux and/or open source software and look forward to building the Linux community in Edmonton.
Note: This group is in need of a sponsor. Please contact Johnny Huynh if you'd like to help.
